FCC and community stations 2012

Taken from an email to Friends of Community Media 5/12

==============================================================

There is an important movement underfoot to FREE THE AIRWAVES &
make space for community broadcasting across the United States. The
Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is currently writing the rules
that will bring hundreds, if not thousands, of new local radio stations
to America's FM dial.

Between now and May 7, 2012, the FCC is soliciting comments from the
public that will determine how many new FM frequencies will become
available to community nonprofits and how much of their programming must
generated locally.

No matter where you live in the United States, it is important - to our
freedom of speech and to our Democracy - that you take 2 minutes to
complete both of the below comment forms (quick, easy, & important)
provided by our friends at Prometheus Radio Project to tell the FCC that
local radio and local programming is important to you and your
community.
